Dr. Rinella is a board-certified, fellowship-trained spine surgeon. His practice is a referral center for complex adult and pediatric procedures, including scoliosis and revision procedures. He has a special interest in the cervical spine, and minimally invasive procedures.

Dr. Rinella leads two week-long missions to Cali, Colombia each year, and participates in other spinal missions around the world. Dr. Rinella received the De La Salle Award from Lewis University for “his exceptional dedication to the children of the world afflicted with spinal deformities, and his tireless humanitarian efforts to ease their suffering and offer them lives of hope.” Dr. Rinella will receive the Walter P. Blount Humanitarian Award – the highest honor awarded by the Scoliosis Research Society.
Dr. Rinella grew up in Flossmoor, IL where his parents live today. He attended Northwestern University as an undergraduate, and graduated with honors in philosophy. He later attended medical school at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He performed his residency at Northwestern University, and completed a fellowship and adult and pediatric spinal surgery at Washington University in St. Louis with Drs. Bridwell, Lenke, and Riew. Dr. Rinella was certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in 2004.
Dr. Rinella regularly presents scientific papers around the world. He published articles on adult and pediatric scoliosis, cervical and lumbar disc replacements, among other topics. He is a member of the North American Spine Society, the Scoliosis Research Society, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
