About Dr. El Shami

Amir El Shami, MD, is a board-certified physical medicine and rehabilitation physician at Illinois Spine and Scoliosis Center in Homer Glen and Woodridge, Illinois. He takes a comprehensive and innovative approach to care, utilizing all available nonoperative techniques to support the body’s natural healing and recovery process. 

After earning his Doctor of Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in Chicago, Illinois, Dr. El Shami remained in Chicago to complete his internship at the Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

He then relocated to Boston, Massachusetts, completing his residency at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital through the Harvard Medical School Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. El Shami returned to Chicago for fellowship training in sports medicine at the University of Chicago.

Dr. El Shami’s areas of expertise include orthopedic sports medicine, running medicine, complex musculoskeletal syndromes, pain management, and regenerative medicine. He’s also skilled at electrodiagnostic studies and musculoskeletal ultrasounds.

In addition to patient care, Dr. El Shami is an assistant professor of orthopaedics at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and a team physician for the UIC Flames. 

Dr. El Shami dedicates himself to providing his patients with comprehensive and conscientious care, helping to improve their daily functioning, and returning them to the activities they enjoy.
